On July 8th, 2016 I hosted a Defence Policy Review and Veterans Affairs town hall in York Region alongside Member of Parliament Majid Jowhari and Senator Don Meredith.
The room at the York Region headquarters office in Newmarket was filled with over 75 people. Community members, veterans, reservists, and members of the Royal Canadian Legion all came out in full force.
Everyone contributed to insightful discussions about the challenges to Canada’s security, the role of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in addressing current threats and challenges, and resources and capabilities needed to carry out the CAF’s mandate.
We also discussed Veterans issues including topics of service excellence, mental health, and care and support.
Thank you to all who came out and voiced their opinions and concerns, contributing to a productive discussion on these important issues. I’m looking forward to submitting my reports to the Minister of National Defence and the Minister of Veterans Affairs in the coming weeks.
Our government is committed to engaging all Canadians on the issues and decisions that affect them. So if you were not able to attend this consultation, we encourage you to join the online conversation and provide feedback on the type of military Canada needs to represent its interests at home and abroad.
